Demons

“My name is Jack Mercy. In a sinister twist, unlike my last name I do not give mercy. You don’t know me, and if you did you would not be reading this. Not because you would hate me (but you probably would) but because you would not be alive. You see I am an assassin, or maybe I was. I once was the best assassin you could find. Now I live in isolation away from people, and civilization. Because of that I am going a bit crazy, but it’s the only way to keep the demons out. I live far into the woods, where the demons can’t find me. It works but the isolation is really getting to me. That’s what made, and still makes me crazy. The screams of the people I killed with my hands echo in my mind. Not my regret, because I do not have any, but the screams that I heard when I killed them. They live in my head. For you to truly understand the demons I mentioned earlier, I must rewind, and tell you how I got into isolation.

It started a month ago. I got a call from a millionaire that hired me, he was willing to pay me almost $300,000. I was astonished. He told me to assassinate an entire gang. Now the $300,000 makes sense. There were three of them. So $100,000 for each one. That is still a lot of money. Three of them are barely a gang, but I won’t judge.

I got to the bar they were at, and I wore a mask so they would not be able to identify me. I walked up to them, and lied that I needed to talk with them. I found out which one was the ‘boss’. His name was Chad. He had tattoos all over his arms and legs. He wore a stern expression on his face. Behind him I saw a black entity, (one of the demons). I punched Chad, which crushed his nose. Then I broke one of the other gang member’s arms. He tried to get away, but I stabbed him with my knife, and it pierced his throat. He landed with a crash. I wore gloves which made me leave none of my DNA. After all the killings, I pocketed their valuables, which I later gave to the millionaire.

I got my money, and I started to walk home. I saw the demon again. He had a huge wide smile on his face, which looked like it had been sewed on. Though when I blinked it was gone in a cloud of black smoke. I started to walk faster. It appeared again, but not just one, there were at least five of them. I drove toward an old cabin I inherited from my grandfather. They followed me. As I parked and ran through the forest, they jumped from branch to branch to follow me. I got to the cabin, and slammed the door. Breathing heavily I locked the door. I have had no human contact. Jack breathed in, held his breath, and breathed out. His phone rang. “Hello”? ”Hello I’ve got a job for you, I’ll pay you $500,000 to ‘remove’ a cult leader. Do you accept”?. The mysterious man on the other line said. Jack thought about the demons, and then about the money. “Are you there”? “Yes”. Jack answered. “Are you going to accept”? With a shaky voice Jack finally answered, “Yes I accept”.

The End.
